Due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Ida, the New Orleans Saints will not be able to host the Green Bay Packers in Caesars Superdome. Instead, they will face off in a neutral site: TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville.
The Drew Brees Era is over
Jameis Winston will get his first start since taking snaps with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 as he takes over for the retired Drew Brees. Winston had Lasik surgery before the start of the 2020 offseason to correct his vision, leading to the question: “Was his high volume of interceptions in 2019 due to his vision or his decision making?” Winston was the NFL’s passing leader yards leader in 2019 while with the Buccaneers, throwing for 5,109- yards making him the 8th quarterback in NFL history to do so.
The League’s MVP
The Green Bay Packers, led by league MVP Aaron Rodgers, seek to start off the season with a bang as they look to once again make a deep run into the playoffs. The veteran quarterback and the Green Bay Packers began the offseason with a bit of a stand-off. Rodgers wants more of a say-so when it comes to the team. Packers also traded up 4 spots in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft to draft quarterback Jordan Love. Speculation began brewing as the team traded up to draft the quarterback in the first round as possibly the heir to Rodgers’ seat. Aaron Rodgers publically stated his concern and his ability to retire with the team. Could this affect Aaron Rodgers’ play this season, and could this be the last season we see the future Hall of Fame quarterback in green and yellow?
“I think it was more the surprise of the pick based on my own feelings of wanting to play into my 40s and really the realization that it does change the controllables’ a little bit because as much as I feel confident in my abilities and what I can accomplish and what we can accomplish, there are some new factors that are out of my control. And so my sincere desire to start and finish with the same organization, just as it has with many other players over the years, may not be a reality at this point.”
Both teams certainly have offensive and defensive weapons, but one matchup stands out the most: Saints cornerback CB Marshon Lattimore vs Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.
The game is scheduled for 4:25 p.m ET on September 12, 2021, on Fox Network.
The Packers are heavily favored in this game, despite them starting two rookie offensive linemen for the first time since 2006; however, Saints head coach Sean Payton always has a few tricks up his sleeve.
