It is a great day for football with the Buffalo Bills coming to Jacksonville this week. We can expect a sea of Blue and Red to envelope TIAA Bank Stadium today. The Bills have come into week 9 with a 5-2 record, coming off a week 8 win against the Dolphins. They play the Jaguars today and the Jets next Sunday. Could today’s game be a trap game for the Bills?
Currently the Jaguars are ranked 25th overall on Defense. Their Secondary, led by Shaquille Griffen, has given up a 74% completion rate through week 8. If the Bills overlooked the Jaguars in any aspect of the game, I believe this might be it. The Bills are getting back Cole Beasley and they already have Stefon Diggs. These 2 WRs are going to give the Jaguars Secondary fits. This weak secondary could make this game very interesting by allowing Josh Allen and Co to put up monstrous numbers.
The Jaguars young Secondary has to step up today and provide enough coverage for the front 7 to make plays. If CB Tre Herndon, who has been battling injuries all season, shows up for the Jaguars he can be the difference maker to cover opposite Griffen. Jaguars also have Rookie CB Tyson Campbell, whom has been good in spots but needs to improve. If these 2 young CBs can show their true potential and the front 7 can continue to get pressure the Jaguars could pull off an upset.
The Bills should not be overlooking this young Jaguars team in any facet of the game. The Jaguars have proven that they can be competitive by putting points on the board. Their ranked #1 in Special Teams with standout Jamal Agnew. Unfortunately, they shoot themselves in the foot with Penalties. Currently the Jaguars have over 85 Penalties on both Offense and Defense, and are aware they need to correct this issue. If the Jaguars can clean up simple mistakes such as these, they may have an opportunity to get the Win today.
Update: Tre Herndon will be out for today’s game. Tyson Campbell will be opposite Shaquille Griffen and Chris Claybrooks will be playing Nickel.
